“I’ve gained so much weight over the lockdown”

This is the phrase I keep hearing so often these days from my clients.

And it’s not a joke that the moment of coming out into the world, taking your layers off for spring and feeling probably the most conscious and vulnerable about our bodies, all fell into the same short time frame! That’s not fair!

And Easter DID NOT help with losing lockdown weight gain! My kids had  about 3 Easter egg hunts and quickly forgot about the existence of the eggs they got, leaving me to eat quite a lot of them! I feel bloated a lot of the time😣 I even threw away a few💪🏽 I’m currently setting myself reminders for next year not to get as many eggs. They include a picture reminder of all the eggs, voice memo with myself telling me not to get as many, and a reminder in “Things” App - my fave To-do app - highly recommend!

When I first came to the UK I gained quite a bit of weight. It was due to the change of lifestyle and the diet. This weight gain could have 2 different emotional outcomes for me:

  1. I could decide to stay more indoors and cover up with shapeless clothes

  2. Or I could embrace and enjoy my new looks.

Luckily, I’ve decided to go for the second option - I was enjoying my new found curves (e.g. boobs) and was embracing feminine styles in clothes.

So I urge you all, my dear friends! Please don’t cover up in shapeless tops!

Let the clothes work FOR you!

We tend to gain weight in different parts of our body, depending on our own shape.

I’ll admit, that it helped being a Personal Stylist when it came to embracing my new looks, as it is my job (and my fave part of it might I add) to make people not only look good, but also feel good in their own skin.

So, before you press enter on that google search, ‘how to lose weight after lockdown’, take a look at these 3 tips on how to enhance your shapes and curves with clothes, depending on where you gained weight:

1. Chest.

Go for a loose fit, roomy style or bigger size. Never try to fit into the size which is too small for you. You will feel much more comfortable in the clothes with some room in and visually bigger size will make you look smaller. Just make sure the length of the sleeve isn’t too long. You might need to use a seamstress. In my years of personal styling, I’ve learned It’s always best to budget in alterations costs. It doesn’t matter whether we shop on high street or high end brands - we all have different shapes and we can rarely buy something off the shelf which is perfect for us. But it can often be fixed with a little change - like a sleeve length.

2. Waist.

Go for an A-line tops - those more fitted on the shoulder, but looser around the waist.

3. Hips.

Try wide high-waisted trousers - they will help you show off your curves and will allow extra room on the hips.
