My husband and I both managed to forget our 10 year anniversary a couple of years ago until our respectful parents reminded us. So celebrating Valentine’s Day is very low on the list of priorities - too much to remember, we prefer impromptu days and nights out. Not to mention the hardship of booking a restaurant as everything is busy and flowers being 3 times more expensive - all of it somehow screams cheesy and old-fashioned.
So when I heard the term Galentine’s Day this year, I was immediately intrigued - I knew it’s something to do with gals, as the name suggests. And my guess was it’s something to do with girlfriends getting together and celebrating their friendship - way less pressure, pheeew!
A quick google search showed that we owe this new holiday to Leslie Knope - the Parks and Recreation character, who came up with Galentine’s day to celebrate her female friends on Feb 13th: “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
Are you as over Valentine’s Day as I am? Do you like a bit of fun and celebrating your friendships?
Here are my top 3 suggestions on how to do this lockdown style:
Virtual Style Party
First up is my Zoom Party! 🥳 Let’s beat those COVID blues together! This is a perfect mix between personal styling and catching up with friends.
You will each alternate at trying on different outfits/things from your wardrobe - something you are unsure about how to wear or if it suits you.
We will discuss which shapes and colours work for each of you. How to define your own style you feel comfortable in and is appropriate for your lifestyle, plus what makes you feel confident.
I’m known for my fun, kind manner and this session is bound to bring you and your friends even closer, while getting some new style knowledge!
Drink and Draw
Come join Lisboa Social Press founder’s Tom and Jilly for our Digital Drink & Draw workshop!
You'll be invited to pick a beverage of your choice and bring it to the table for a relaxed and fun filled session.
With a focus on the underlying mindful and stress relieving benefits of drawing, the aim of the session is designed to connect you with your surroundings and the group.
The workshop is split into two halves. In the first half, you'll loosen up your stiff wrists with a few still life studies of objects chosen from your own home.
In the second half, you'll be invited to turn your attention to portraits, focusing first on their Woman of the Week before playing their famous Guess Who and drawing each other within the online group.
Isolation Sensation Chocolate Truffle Kit and Online Workshop
Indulge your sweet tooth and beat any isolation blues with a live chocolate making masterclass from the team at MyChocolate.
The Chocolate Truffle Making Webinar Workshop is an online, live streamed workshop. Their charming Chocolatier will walk you through making your own fresh cream truffles from the comfort of your kitchen. They’ll entertain you and your housemates (aka quarantine buddies) with their extrovert personality and outrageous wit while teaching you how to make delicious chocolate truffles. From mixing your ganache, piping techniques, flavouring tips & tricks, to how to dip and decorate using techniques such as marbling and caging – you’ll be well on your way to making swish chocolate creations! Their favourite kitchen cupboard creation is gingerbread spice truffle, drizzled in dark chocolate and topped with orange zest and sea salt.
I hope you enjoy these Galentine’s Day ideas! Let me know if and how you are going to celebrate!
Love, Kay
