Growth mindset is when instead of saying: “I’m terrible at this”, you say: “I am not as good at this as I wish I was and I’m going to practice to get better”. Or instead of saying “I’m a loser”, you say: “I made a mistake, and there are things I can do next time to avoid repeating it.”
Or, instead of saying “Nothing looks good on me”, you say: “I’m gonna learn what works for my particular body type”.
Here is 1 thing which will help you understand what types of clothes work best on you:
We all have a mixture of angular and rounded features in our bodies. Some of us are more angular overall and some are more rounded. This is based on Kibbe Body Types system. Look at the image below:
The lady on the left has sharp, angular features. Both her figure and her face consist of sharp lines, rectangles and triangles. Pay attention to her jawline, nose, lips, arms, torso, etc.
The lady on the right, has very soft, curvy lines, her face and her figure consists of circles and curves. Pay attention to her lips, jawline, hips, bust, arms, etc.
Look closely at these pictures. Where would you put yourself? Are you more angular? More curvy? Somewhere in the middle?
And what does it mean for your style? Are there styles of clothes which would work better on you?
If you are more angular overall, go for more minimal lines, less frills and less “girly” details. See the moodboard below:
If, on the other hand, you’ve got a pronounced waistline and have rounded features, more feminine, girly details will work better on you. And always show off your waistline. If you wear a rectangular silhouette without a waistline, you will look as wide as your widest point. See some examples below:
As you can see, you are supporting your natural lines with the clothes.
Let’s have a look at this example below:
These 2 women are wearing the same dress, just in different colour. This dress is designed for a curvier figure and it looks more organic on the lady on the right. The dress doesn’t fit so well for the lady on the left. There are lots of unnecessary creases around the chest area and the sleeves look a bit too short. She would look better either with no sleeves at all or with longer sleeves.
So what sort of dress would suit her better? Let’s have a look below. The dress on the left is more minimal and hasn’t got any sleeves. It looks better on her. The dress on the right has too many fussy details.
This is the first step, of course. There is much more to body shapes and I teach it all inside Embrace Place - my membership. If you’d like to learn more, make sure you get on the waiting list for when my membership reopens next time 🤩: https://outfit.mindoverfashion.com/waitlist
