How To Get A New Look Without Spending A Penny

“I had to sort my clothes into items, it made me think I don’t actually like any of my clothes, so what can she do as I didn’t want to buy any more.” This is what Nathalie thought before our session. In the event we discovered tons of fantastic combos within her own wardrobe and she didn’t need to buy a thing.

So what DID I do?

Do I have some sort of superpower? Don’t you wish I could wave a magic wand and you could, too have that power of looking at your wardrobe in a new way and find all these hidden gems?

It’s not as hard as you might think, but it will require some work on your part.

So would you like a new look without spending a penny??

You would??

Ah well, OK then, I’m going to share my top secret recipe with you… just don’t tell anyone, OK?!

Here is what you’ve got to do, step by step:

1. Invite a friend you can trust over.

2. Prepare your favourite drinks, snacks and playlist - make it long!

PLEASE give me some recommendations of your fav songs in the comments!

3. Take everything out of your wardrobe

4. Put all your stuff into different piles: dresses/jeans/tops/blouses/blazers/sweatshirts, cardis, etc.

Here you can see the example of how to arrange your clothes into different piles/sections.

5. Get your phone at the ready - you are going to take pics of EVERY outfit

6. Put on a pair of jeans/trousers you wear most frequently

7. Start trying on all your tops/blouses - take pics

8. Then try on different bottoms

9. Try all your other clothes, like dresses, blazers, cardis, etc

10. Try combos you’ve never tried before! Very important! This will be the most gentle way to get you to try new shapes and outfits.

11. GO CRAZY with the combinations of shapes/prints/colours you’ve got. Let it go and have fun!

12. Print the pics out and lay them all out on the bed

13. See which shapes/colours work better. Keep putting different pics next to each other and you’ll be able to tell the difference. Squinting sometimes helps so you only see the outline and aren’t distracted on the details.

14. And last but not least: TRUST YOUR GUT!

I’ve never seen a wardrobe where everything was just wrong. You live with yourself all your life and you intuitively know what works. It’s just about getting it out into your consciousness.

To get your creative juices flowing, here are some ideas:

Layering ideas:

  1. Layer on.

2. Try layering jumpers/sweatshirts with skirts or dresses.

3. Try layering dresses on top of T-shirts and jeans.

4. Layer jumpers on top of shirts

5. Wear jumpers as scarves

6. Layer shirts on top of T-shirts or dresses

Mixing prints:

1. In this example below she uses 2 technics:

  • She inverted colours - on the trousers the red flowers are on the white background and on the top the white flowers are on the red background;

  • She used 2 different scale prints: The top has small, dainty print, the trousers have bigger bolder print

2. Combine flower print with leopard print

3. Combine colourful print with monochrome
