A letter to my daughter

My husband Sam and I got into a new routine recently. Every now and then we write letters to our kids and leave them next to their beds to be found in the morning.

Here is the one I wrote to Freja this week:

Dear Freja, I absolutely loved trying things on in Zara on Sunday! It brought me so much joy to see you happy and to see how beautiful and playful you are! 🤗

And it made my heart sing when you said that trying crop tops, which you were so itching to get, helped you get over the idea of owning one. It was a great lesson for me as well:

You don’t always need to buy clothes when you are in the shops, it’s also fun to just try them on, take some pictures and experiment with what you like best.

Next time I should try some stuff on as well 😉

Reading “The Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” book about Clara Lemlich, the girl who was a Ukrainian refugee in the USA, and worked at a clothing factory, inspired me to think about all the people who helped make the clothes we tried on and where they came from.

The yellow T-shirt you tried on is part of Zara’s Join Life range: the clothing that is produced using technology that helps them to reduce the environmental impact of their products (which means the clothes they produce will hurt the environment less).

I also found ZARA’s Code of Conduct online. It’s a document which tells me everything about how they treat the people working for them and making the clothes. This is something you should be able to look up about every company you shop from.

It’s nearly impossible to make clothes which don’t hurt the Earth, so my approach is to reduce the amount of clothes we buy. And this is exactly what we did on Sunday 😍🌍

Lots of love,

Mum
