You might think you come across as presumptuous if you tell people what you want, but did you know that according to research done by UKGCVA, approximately 23 million unwanted presents end up in landfill each Christmas, in the UK alone. None of this accounts for the additional impact these gifts have (from production, to wrapping)!
And how can you minimise the chances of getting or giving one of those next year? Here are 3 quick ideas:
1. Make a wishlist.
Did you know that generic gifts are out of fashion and asking people what they’d like is in?
And so is writing a wishlist. There are a few platforms that offer that, here are a couple:
Moonsift is your ultimate wishlist platform. Some of my clients create boards with all the things they come across which they think might work for them and send them to me to check. You can also create a board with your wish list items and share it with your loved ones before your birthday or Christmas.
Wearing is a wardrobe digitising tool I use, which allows you to create a wishlist too.
2. Ask people to give to a charity of your choice.
Here are a couple of ideas:
Dandelion Time is a charity that gives support to children who’ve suffered from traumatic experiences such as domestic abuse and neglect.
United Ukraine Foundation helps people who lost their limbs due to shelling during the war in Ukraine and supports Ukraine by providing ambulances and medical supplies
3. Give or receive an experience instead of a physical gift:
